Point Loma began as a lighthouse that sat 442 feet above the now metropolis that has become the town of Point Loma.  The lighthouse kept watch for Navy ships and ensured safe passage into the harbors of San Diego.  Even though the lighthouse is no longer an integral part of keeping the harbors safe, it is a symbol for the light that was cast upon the beautiful town that we now know as Point Loma.
